About Amanda
Welcome! My name is Amanda (she/her). I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with an therapy practice working with people in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.
My love for this work was actually born from a lifelong love of stories - from books, from theater - and finding that we are told many stories about ourselves and often let them define us, whether we like it or not. Our relationships, culture, and the world around us can really shape those stories even more. Those narratives sometimes lead to anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. Earlier attachment wounds or traumatic experiences might deepen the pain of those stories even further. I hope to work with you to name those stories outright, figure out where they came from to begin with, and start to feel better through a blend of exploration and practical strategies that will build skills and awareness.
In my work with people struggling with perinatal mental health, such as anxiety and depression during stages of pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, miscarriage or pregnancy loss, grieving or having a pregnancy after loss, these stories can become louder in a way that impacts your functioning. How you’re “supposed” to feel, think or behave can often make you feel even worse than the challenges themselves.
I also specialize in working with people who are processing issues of identity within their intercultural relationship. Therapy is a wonderful space to explore how race, faith, sexual orientation, class, gender, ability or culture might be influencing your romantic partnership. By opening the door to these conversations in therapy, people can allow themselves to uncover stories that are negatively impacting their partner in ways they weren’t even conscious of, and work through those issues to strengthen their relationship.
In the past, I have worked in arts education, community arts programs for middle and high schoolers, schools and community mental health clinics. I received post-graduate training from the Ackerman Institute for the Family, which teaches a relational form of therapy that encourages therapists-in-training to think about the bigger picture affecting clients. This has deeply informed my work, and I have been able to combine this approach with additional behavioral therapy training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I am currently completing the training requirements from Postpartum Support International in order to receive certification in perinatal mental health (PMH-C). I work from an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens. I strive to continually challenge and explore my own biases outside of session in order to maintain a warm and welcoming space in session.
In addition to my role as a therapist, I also work as the Manager of Audience Research and Insights with a kids’ media company called Story Pirates.
I look forward to hearing from you about how we might work together.
